The Storyline
Humber men's basketball will head out on the road Tuesday night to conclude its season series with Mohawk (7-8, 7th West). Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. from the David Braley Athletics & Recreation Centre.
Last Time Out
In front a max capacity crowd, the Hawks escaped No. 9 Sheridan (12-2, 2nd West), 100-98, in overtime. After overcoming a 17-point deficit, the Bruins hit a 3-point buzzer beater to force the extra frame.
With 18 fouls called in overtime, the Hawks (10-4, 4th West) capitalised from the free throw line, despite converting only 40 percent from the line heading into OT. Jerome Gayle scored the game-winner with 0:09 remaining; making a game-saving block seconds later.
Kenny Ejim finished with a game-high 25 points for Humber in the win, while DeQuon Cascart hit a career-high seven free throws – six of which came in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Scouting Mohawk
- The Mountaineers currently own a three-game losing streak, losing by an average of 10 ppg over that span.
- After capturing the silver medal in 2016, Mohawk has struggled to find wins in the OCAA, putting together an 11-20 (.354) record since the beginning of last season.
- OCAA All-Star Lamar Barr is leading the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 ppg.
- Mohawk added Rommel Calura for the second semester, and in four games he is averaging 18.5 ppg – including 24 points in a win against St. Clair (5-9, 8th West) to begin the semester.
- As a team, the Mountaineers are ranked 17th in the league in 3-point percentage, shooting 26.4 percent (97-of-367) from behind the arc.
Last Meeting
Kenny Ejim scored a career-high 29 points as Humber beat Mohawk 85-51 at the North Campus Gym. Mohawk's top scorer Lamar Barr did not play in the game.
Road Troubles
All-time, Humber owns a 49-18 (.731) regular season record against Mohawk; however, the Hawks have lost four of their last six meetings at the DBARC.
Block Party
In its win over Sheridan, Humber blocked 13 shots, the highest single-game total by any OCAA team this season and the most in the Patrick Au era.
Through 14 games, Humber ranks second in the CCAA, averaging 5.2 bpg. With 73 total blocks, the Hawks are on pace to break the program record of 105, established during the 2014-15 season.
300-Point Club
Since 1979, over 300 student-athletes have donned the blue and gold, and only 11 have managed to score 300-plus points in a season. The last Humber player to join the club was All-Canadian Fitzroy Woolery in 2001-02 when he finished with 302 points in 15 games.
In 12 games this season, Kenny Ejim has scored 265 points and is currently on pace to finish at 398.
C.J. Bennett has a chance at making the 300-point club as well, currently sitting at 219 points. Ejim and Bennett would be the first teammates to make the club in the same season since Patrick Rhodd (357), and Larry McNeil (334) accomplished the feat in 1991.
Century Mark
The Hawks have recorded eight 100-point games this season, breaking the record held by the 1990-91 National Champion team coached by Mike Katz.
Averaging 97.6 ppg, Humber is on pace to have its highest scoring season since 1994, when they averaged 99.6 points over 12 games.

Humber 500
On Jan. 13, C.J. Bennett became the 29th player in program history to score 500 career points. Bennett now sits 26th all-time in scoring, 4 points behind Mike Dvorak's (2007-11) mark of 537.
Kenny Ejim needs 25 more points to join Bennett in the 500-point club.
