The Storyline
No. 10 Humber men's basketball (6-1, 3rd West) will head on the road Thursday evening to face crosstown rival No. 4 Sheridan College (6-0, 2nd West) at Davis Campus Gym. Tipoff for the 101st regular-season edition of 'The Game' is set for 8 p.m.
Last Time Out
A season-high 29 points from Kenny Ejim helped Humber return to the win column after an 85-51 win over Mohawk (2-5, 8th West), Nov. 16. C.J. Bennett, Stefan Grujic, and Curwin Elvis also reached double-figure scoring, and as a team, Humber shot 50.0 percent from the floor.
Ball Movement
Humber had 24 assists in the win over Mohawk, marking the fifth time this season the Hawks have finished with 20-plus assists in a game.
C.J. Bennett and Curwin Elvis lead Humber in assists with 26 and 20, respectively. As a team, the Hawks continue to move the ball well, averaging a conference-best 21.9 assists per outing.
Scouting No. 4 Sheridan
- The defending provincial champions, Sheridan has won 30 consecutive OCAA regular season games, including three straight against Humber.
- The Bruins feature the top scoring offence in the province, averaging 106.7 points per game. Four Sheridan players are averaging at least 10 ppg. Nick Campbell leads the way at 19.3 ppg, with A.J. Thomson (14.7), Jemol Edwards (13.0), and Navdeep Deol (10.6) behind him.
- Defensively Sheridan allows the fewest 3-pointers in the league, as teams have only shot 18.3 percent (22-for-120) from beyond the arc.
- Last season the Bruins captured the CCAA silver medal, the tenth in program history.
Last Meeting
These two teams last met in the semifinals last season, and the Bruins came away with a 94-85 overtime win. Tyrone Dickson had a double-double in the loss, finishing with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
The Rivalry
Considered the greatest rivalry in the CCAA, the Humber/Sheridan game dates back to the 1968 season. Over the last 33 seasons, these two programs have combined to win 26 provincial titles with Humber leading the way at 14.
The Bruins are the only active OCAA program with a win percentage (.540) over .500 against Humber in the regular season.
In the postseason, Humber is 11-6 (.625) against Sheridan, including an epic 55-51 win in the 2001 national title game.
Brampton Blues
At Sheridan, the Hawks own an 18-31 (.367) win percentage, its lowest mark against any OCAA opponent.
Polling
When the first CCAA rankings were revealed on Oct. 31, Humber came in at number six, two spots behind the defending provincial champion Sheridan Bruins. After the loss to Redeemer, the Hawks fell to tenth in the country.
Century Mark
For the first time in program history, the Hawks scored 100-plus points in five straight games to begin the season, surpassing its previous high of three, established during the 1994-95 season.
The 123 points scored against Sault was the second most in program history, falling 11 points shy of the record set during the 1990-91 season in a 134-73 win against George Brown. During that same season, Humber set the program record with seven 100-plus point games.
