Softball Sweeps Fanshawe to Extend Win Streak to Three

ETOBICOKE – Humber softball (5-1, 2nd OCAA) picked up the series sweep Saturday afternoon, beating the Fanshawe Falcons (2-4, 6th OCAA) at Connorvale Park.

The Hawks continued to ride its dominant pitching staff, allowing four earned runs in 14 innings of work.

Game One: Humber 6, Fanshawe 3
Fanshawe started Morgan Lowry in the circle and the righty had not surrendered a run in 2019. The Hawks got to her in the third inning when Meaghan Murphy roped an RBI double down the right-field line to score Hannah Koziolek from second base for an early 1-0 lead.

Lowry was removed from the game in the fifth after loading the bases and Humber was able to capitalize. Alexis Ferreira scored on a wild pitch, followed by Alexa Vassos after the catcher threw the ball away. A few pitches later, Murphy crossed the plate on another wild pitch.

Presly Buchanan picked up her second win of the season, allowing three hits and picking up three strikeouts in five innings of work.

Game Two: Humber 3, Fanshawe 2
Hayley Pasma made her offensive debut in game two, getting the offence started with a double in the second inning. Koziolek followed that up with a sacrifice fly to score Kate Kostuch to open the scoring in game two. Alexis Ferreira followed with an RBI single to score Pasma. Meagan Muir made her third start of the season for the Hawks, scattering five hits over seven innings of work. Muir's lone mistake came in the fifth inning when Samantha Fuller turned on a pitch to hit a two-run home run to tie the game.

Humber was quick to respond when Ferreira scored Koziolek with an RBI double to take back the lead for good.

What's Next?

Humber will host the Durham Lords (7-1, 1st OCAA) Sept. 15 at Connorvale Park. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
