ETOBICOKE – Humber baseball (9-2, 1st OCAA) extended its win streak to seven straight games Sunday, sweeping the Lambton Lions (0-6, 7th OCAA) at Connorvale Park. The Hawks were able to squeak by in game one and let the offence loose to earn another five-inning win in game two.
Game One: Humber 3, Lambton 2
Humber opened the scoring in the first when Stephen Narhabeki scored on a Sam Lebel triple.
Lambton responded in the fourth, capitalizing on Humber's defensive miscues to take the lead with two unearned runs.
The defending champions answered quickly in the bottom of the fourth with Dennis Dei Baning scoring on a Hunter Bisser single to tie the game. Bisser would come around to score when Narhabeki was walked with the bases loaded.
Veteran Steven Hough got the nod for Humber and cruised through the first five innings. In the sixth, the ran into trouble, walking the bases loaded with two outs. Reliever Riley Pollard entered the game, striking out Chris Bonneau looking to end the threat.
Game Two: Humber 13, Lambton 0
Humber's offence erupted in game two and the Hawks recorded their sixth game with 10-plus hits. Stephen Narhabeki continued to set the table from the lead-off spot, finishing 4-for-4 with two RBI and two extra-base hits.
Freshman Anthony Goddard got the call for game two, tossing four shutout innings and recording seven strikeouts.
Fraser Valley transfer Ian Zwartz came on in relief, making his first appearance for Humber in Zwartz was outstanding to close out the game, facing three Lions hitters, picking up three strikeouts.
Game Notes:
- Tyrus Bath and Cameron Hahnfeld recorded their first career OCAA hits.
- Cameron Hahnfeld recorded his first career hit for the Hawks.
- Liam Sutherland and Narhabeki lead the league with five stolen bases.
- Anthony Goddard earned his first career OCAA win.
- Riley Pollard earned his league-leading fifth save of the year.
What's Next?
Humber baseball will travel to Bishops Cross Park in Toronto on Sept. 25 to take on the undefeated Seneca Sting (7-0, 2nd OCAA). First pitch is set for 7:00 pm.
