Humber Badminton Wins Both Team Titles at 2020 OCAA Championships

KITCHENER – Humber badminton continued its OCAA dominance, leaving the 2020 Championships with two titles and two silver medals. Humber also captured the men's team title and tied George Brown for the women's title.

To no one's surprise, Humber superstar Chloe Rowe and partner Susanna Quach rolled through the tournament, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record to win the provincial title. Rowe continued to add to her badminton legacy, joining Hall of Famer's Tracy Wong and Renee Yip as the only players in program history to win four OCAA titles. Rowe and Quach met Fanshawe in the finals, picking up the easy victory, 2-0 (21-3, 21-9).

Defending national champion Ramnish Kumar was looking for redemption after he fell to his rival Pranav Satheesh at regionals. The two met once again in the final, but this time the provincial title was on the line. After splitting the first two sets, Kumar put together his most dominant set as a Hawk, dropping Satheesh, 2-1 (21-18, 13-21, 21-7). Kumar successfully defended his crown and joined Hall of Famer Ray Wong as the only players in program history to win back-to-back OCAA men's singles titles.

OCAA Player of the Year Arpit Taneja and all-star Ayubu Touray fell in the men's doubles final to Seneca, 0-2. The duo battled to capture the silver medal, winning their second straight OCAA medal.

Mixed doubles all-stars Victoria Duong and Desmond Chan also captured the OCAA silver medal. Competing with heavy hearts, the pair lost in the finals after a 4-1 round-robin record.
