HAWKS XC WOMEN GRAB OCAA TEAM SILVER - SHUVERA INDIVIDUAL SILVER

SCARBOROGH, ONT: All athletes experienced the cold, wet and rainy weather today at the OCAA Cross Country Championship host by Centennial College, at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.

Women's Cross Country 6km

Today the Hawks women's team experienced what it's like to "click". After a long season of being points away from third place. The Hawks, will be walking away with a OCAA silver medal. All-Canadian Kaitlin Shuvera had one of her best performances all season, by finishing in second place, achieving First Team All-Ontario status for the third straight year. Kayleigh Bush was the next runner to cross the finish line for the Hawks, with this being her first OCAA race she finished 16th. Katelyn Morgan, captain of the women's team was waiting till the last 2km to start her kick, finishing 29th. Once Morgan started moving, so did her fellow teammates, Ana Jaimes finished 36th, right behind her was Sue Yemen who finished 37th and Patricia Rothenburg 41rst to close the gap.

Men's Cross Country 8km

Running after the women's race can be frustrating for some of the male athletes, as the course can be slippery. Powering through, Cole Czuchnicki lead the Hawks, finishing in sixth place. Josh Heuving was the next Hawk to cross the finish line, finishing 17th. One after another, the Hawks started to cross the finish line - Graiden Maynard 24rth, Aaron Veenstra 27th, Zac Nixon 30th and Peter Wilson 37th. All Hawks pushed each other out on the course today, they worked together to pick off their competitors. The men's squad were only a few points away from reaching their goal to podium finish, but still proved how focused driven they can be. Finishing fifth as a team, the Hawks know this isn't the end.

What's next

With one more race to give it all they got, both teams will be competing at the CCAA Cross Country Nationals, Saturday November 10, hosted by Seneca College.
