HAWKS RACE AGAINST THE BEST UNIVERSITY RUNNERS IN THE PROVINCE AT WESTERN

Story By Dani Dupuis

LONDON, ONT: It was no surprise that this course was going to be faster than usual for The Hawks. At the Western Invitational hosted by Western University, both men's and women's teams showed promising results. This meet gave the Hawks a look into the competitiveness that lies ahead, on their road to Nationals.

Women's 6 km

With only four runners, the Hawks Women's xc team looked strong and focused during the race today. Kaitlin Shuvera, who always makes running look so easy finished the race with a time of 23:37. Almost 2 minutes faster from her previous race last week. Katelyn Morgan finished the race with a time of 26:35, shaving off almost one minute from her previous race. Kayleigh Bush, the third runner to cross the line for the Hawks finished with a time of 26:45, followed by Sue Yemen with a time of 27:48. Yemen finished the race today, with one of her fastest times as a Humber athlete.

Men's 8 km

New times all around! Cole Czuchnicki was the first Hawk to cross the line with a time of 26:40 followed by Aaron Veenstra with a time of 27:50. Peter Wilson came in with a time of 27:59, Graiden Maynard 28:49, Chris Tomlinson 29:18 and Zachary Nixon 29:57. All athletes finished with faster paces than last week and new race times. Finishing above Fanshawe and Sheridan, the men's team is going to have to continue to work hard to stay within reach of their competitors.

As Coach Teresa Arnini says, "The squads are deep, it's not just two colleges fighting for the spotlight. There are about four or five other teams coming in deep... This is what we're going to be running against. Today was a big learning day and we were really proud".

"These are the fastest people in Ontario, you might as well race with them." – Darren Mancini
