HAWKS WOMEN LOOKING FOR NATIONAL GOLD ON FAMILIAR COURSE

HAWKS WOMEN LOOKING FOR NATIONAL GOLD ON FAMILIAR COURSE

BROCKVILLE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's cross country team, 2015 OCAA Champions, will race for CCAA Gold in Brockville this Saturday at 11:00 am. St. Lawrence College is the host of the 2015 National event, and the race will be held on the same Brockville course that the Hawks captured an invitational title just weeks ago.

Although Humber has missed the team podium over the last two years, they have had great success on the national stage, winning Gold in 2011 and capturing four medals in the last seven years. The Hawks Lindsay Webster did win Silver individually last year, but did not return for the 2015 season.

The Hawks are very similar to the men in team strategy, forsaking individual successes for team victory. Not a single Hawk finished in the top five of OCAA of the individual leader board this year, but the next number of spots were littered with Humber runners. All six racers placed among the top twenty in the province, led by Coby Phillips and her sixth pace performance.

One of the keys to winning cross country team titles is the contribution of the entire six runner team, as although the top four finishers count in the final standings, it is important for the final two racers to take away potential top spots from other teams.
