Women's Volleyball Beats Seneca, Advances to OCAA Championship Tournament

ETOBICOKE - No. 15 women's volleyball opened the 2020 OCAA Postseason with a straight-set sweep of Seneca (5-14, 7th West) Saturday afternoon at the North Campus Gym. The final set scores were 25-13, 25-11, and 25-7.

Humber got straight to work entering the court Saturday afternoon, with kills by Hayley Henderson and Alex Krstonosic earning the first points of the first and second sets. Crucial assists by Lauren Schneider, with Shiann Williams sealing the deal, kept Humber in comfortable leads throughout the sets. Humber's success continued, as service runs by Alex Krstonosic and Hayley Henderson brought Humber to set victories at 25-13 and 25-11.

Lauren Schneider started off the final set on the right foot, earning a three-point service run for the Hawks. Big attacks by Julia Watson and Cassidy Andrews kept the Sting tamed, with smart plays by Shiann Williams extended Humber to an eight-point lead. Seneca was caught on their heels as a huge service run by Danielle Miles quickly escalated the Hawks to an 18-3 advantage. Megan Hunt finished off the set at 25-7, with a strong outside kill.

Second-year setter Lauren Schneider earned Hawk Nation Player of the Game, earning 22 assists and four aces throughout the game. Alex Krstonosic was the lead scorer for Humber with 10 kills, one ace and a block.

  • The Hawks earned an impressive .587 hitting percentage against the Sting.
  • Humber improves to 4-0 all-time in the crossover round.
  • Coach Wilkins recorded his 53rd OCAA postseason victory.
  • Alex Krstonosic's .909 swing percentage was a new career-high.

What's Next?
No. 15 Humber women's volleyball will travel to North Bay for the 2020 OCAA Final Eight Tournament running from Feb. 27 - Feb. 29. The Hawks will open the championship against the hosting Canadore Panthers (15-3, 3rd East), with first serve set for 6 p.m.
