Women's Volleyball Legend Kelly Nyhof Joins Coaching Staff

ETOBICOKE – As a player on the court for the Humber Hawks women's volleyball team, Kelly Nyhof accomplished almost everything a player can in post-secondary sport, including have her number retired and being inducted into multiple of Hall of Fames. And, when her playing career was over at Humber, she went on to represent Canada at two FISU World University Games and International Friendlies, and currently still competes in the Professional ONE Volleyball League in Toronto.

With the departures of long-standing assistants Dean Wylie and Rachel Dubbeldam, Nyhof will step in to fill their large shoes as an assistant with head coach Chris Wilkins. Wylie was a crucial cog in developing the players in the middle position, and Nyhof should seamlessly fit in by way of her many years of playing the position.

"Kelly came in as a solid player during her freshman season, but by listening and learning became one of the best players to ever step on the court," said Wilkins. "She became a student of the game early, and it paid off for her. Now she has the opportunity to use that experience to develop players from her spot on the bench, now as a coach".

Her accomplishments as a player go across both landscapes - team and individual. Kelly has been a league first-team all-star every year and four-time championship all-star (three of them as OCAA Championship MVP) and led Humber to five consecutive OCAA championships in each of her five seasons. Humber's OCAA record with Kelly on the squad was 109-2.

Kelly will get right to business quickly, as she will join the Hawks coaching staff in July for the first of a couple of weekend training sessions for returning and potential players, all of whom will be vying for spots when the official tryout camp kicks off in September.
