HAWKS ROLL OUT ENTIRE LINE-UP IN 3-0 SWEEP OF VIPERS

Recap by Aideena Wickstrom

ETOBICOKE, ON: On January 26th, the Humber Hawks hosted Sudbury's Boreal Vipers. In this match, the Hawks remained disciplined and focused, reigning victorious in three straight sets.

Alex Bartman started the opening set on the right foot, as she nailed down a quick 5 point serving run. Struggling to return the ball aggressively, the Vipers could not find ways to score. Shortly after Bartman's run, Aideena Wickstrom hit the back court and nailed down a seven point run of her own. The Hawks continued to soar ahead of their opposing team as left side Danielle Miles slammed down multiple kills. Following this, Lauren Schneider closed out the set with an impressive ten point serving run of her own. Without letting the Vipers gain more than a few points at a time, the set was finalized at 25-8.

The Hawks carried their momentum from the previous set as Humber quickly began to dominate Boréal by points in the second set. With Brandy Ferguson setting, Humber's offence quickly laid down four kills to open the set. This energy continued as Middle Aideena Wickstrom tracked and blocked Boréal's chance at offence. The Vipers began to lose their fire, as Humber continued to put down kill after kill. By 16-5, Boreal called the first timeout of the game, to try and give their team a break. This failed to help Boreal though, as Humber re-entered the court and Lauren Schneider went on an eight point serving run. The score was finalized at 25-8.

The Hawks took a quick 5-1 lead in the third set as the Vipers struggled to return their offence. This lead was extended as Aideena Wickstrom went on a six point serving run with two aces. Humber continued to command points as Rosella Falcomer raked up kills in the middle position. The Vipers tried to fight back but the Hawks stay disciplined and refused to lose extra points. Humber finished off the game efficiently at 25-13.

The leading scorer in this match was Danielle Miles, with 10 kills and 2 blocks. Danielle also received Hawk Nation's Player of the Game.
