HAWKS PLAY COMEBACK IN ALL THREE SETS FOR WIN AT REDEEMER

Recap by Aideena Wickstrom

ANCASTER, ON: The Humber Hawks travelled to Ancaster on Wednesday, January 16th, to play their third match of the 2019 season. In this match, they took on the Redeemer Royals, and secured victory in three straight "come from behind" sets.

In the beginning, the Hawks had a rough start, as they gave away three points to the Royals through minor errors. This continued as the Royals pushed hard against the Hawks, coming out on the right side of every rally. As both teams battled point for point, Redeemer was giving the Hawks a run for their money. By 22-18, the Hawks finally kicked their gameplay into high gear. Going on a serving run, Julia Watson brought the Hawks within reach of the victory. Staying disciplined, the Hawks protected their side of the court, and finalized the set at 25-23.

Starting off on the right note this time, the Hawks quickly gained a strong lead. With Julia Watson guarding Humber's court with kill after kill, the Royals were unsure how to respond. Taking an early timeout within the first 10 points, Redeemer was taking an effort to regather their bearings. This was deemed ineffective though, as the Hawks continued to feed off their momentum and fly above the Royals. Playing smart and diligently, the Hawks were quick to finish off the second set. The final score was 25-15.

In the third set, the Hawks had seemed to have lost their energy. With the Royals quickly boasting a 7-1 lead, the Hawks had a lot of work in order to catch back up. Struggling to pass their opponents aggressive serve, the Hawks were forced to take a time out. After this, the Hawks finally began to push back, putting a dent in the hole they were in.

There was a steady back and forth between both teams before the Hawks were finally able to push through their deficit and go on a 7 point serving run. Olivia Foley served from the base line from 17-23, all the way until the Hawks were crowned victorious at 25-23.

The lead scorer in this match was Julia Watson, with 14 kills. Next, the Humber Hawks will take on the Conestoga Condors in Kitchener on January 19th.
