HAWKS ROLL ON HOME COURT TO 3-0 EXHIBITION WIN OVER SENECA

Recap by: Aideena Wickstrom

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team played the Seneca Sting on Thursday night at the Humber Athletic Centre, in what was the Hawks last pre-season match. As they do not play each other in regular league play, this will be the last time the teams face off until a possible post-season battle.

The opening set brought promise to the Hawks as they ran off a quick lead of five points. Capitalizing on their offence while being ahead, the Hawks refused to let Seneca back into the set. Humber finished off the set strong, winning the opening stanza 25-15.

In the second set, the Hawks carried their momentum from the first and started with an eight point lead. The Hawks executed perfectly both offensively and defensively, limiting Seneca few opportunities to gain points. With a huge kill out of the middle by Alex Krstonosic, the teams hype built. They quickly ended the set at 25-11, and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was similar to the previous sets, in that the Hawks took a strong lead from Seneca in the beginning and carried it throughout the match. Humber played aggressively and Seneca slowly gave the set up. Sally Nguyen provided five powerful kills to help lead her team to the set victory at 25-14, and a 3-0 sweep of the match.

With the pre-season coming to a close, the Hawks look forward to the start of the regular season. Humber will look to extend their current league and playoff win streak of 152, as they play the Redeemer Royals at home on October 25th, at 6pm.
