HAWKS SPLIT TWO FRIENDLIES ON FIRST DAY IN HALIFAX

HALIFAX, NS: The Women's Volleyball team flew out to Nova Scotia on Wednesday to compete in five exhibition games in the final stretch of their pre-season play. First up was a four set thriller against the Saint Mary Huskies at their home gym. Just hours later, they made their way to Mount Saint Vincent for another 4 set match.

GAME 1: Humber 1 vs SMU 3

The girls had a rough start in the beginning of the first set, digging themselves in a 7-point hole which they were unable to recover from, as they dropped the match 9-25.

The second set was much different for the Hawks as they stepped up their game and followed the Huskies point for point. Eventually, they gained energy and snatched the lead from SMU, pulling away with a strong 25-22 win.

In the third set, both teams battled head to head for the lead. As points went back and forth, the Hawks kept their ground and played strong before barely losing the set at 32-30.

The fourth set slowly mimicked the first as the Hawks were unable to pick up their feet and quickly let the Huskies have a strong 8-point lead. They could not get themselves back into the game, and the Hawks fought hard but slowly lost the set 25-10.

GAME TWO: Hawks 3 vs MSVU 1

The Hawks were trying to find their footing in the first set against Mount Saint Vincent's Mystics as they fell into a 6-point deficit. This lead carried MSVU into winning the first set with the Hawks trailing just behind at 19-25.

Starting off the second set, the Mystics had a four point lead. Despite this, the Hawks fought hard throughout the whole game and slowly gained momentum, stealing the lead from MSVU and winning at 25-22.

Set three brought a different fate for the women's team. Using the energy from the previous set, the team bursted into the first half of the set, acquiring a quick ten point lead. This advantage helped the Hawks finish the set off easily at 25-15.

Point for point, the fourth set brought some of the best gameplay out of both teams. As the Hawks and Mystics stayed within a couple points of each other, the Hawks eventually pulled away with the lead. The Mystics were right behind them as our women's team snagged the win at 25-23 and finished the game.

Tomorrow, the Hawks are preparing to play at 6pm against Acadia University in their third exhibition match of their pre season tour of Nova Scotia.
