ALUMNI GAME GOES FIVE SETS BEFORE CURRENT HAWKS PREVAIL

ETOBICOKE, ON: The women's volleyball team took their alumni to court this weekend in a friendly 5 set match aimed to showcase Humber's long standing athletic excellence. Many alumni from last years team, along with plenty of players from years before, showed up to compete against the new Hawk team.

Our current women's team started off quickly, gaining a five point lead and forcing the alumni team to take their first time out at 5-10. This lead carried the Hawks to an easy first set victory at 25-20.

The second set brought intense rallies and consistent back and forth leads. Both teams fought hard for each point, but the Hawks fell just short of the win, losing to the Alumni 25-23.

Right off the bat, the Hawks started off the third set strong with an 8-1 lead. Aiding them to the finishing points, this lead was crucial to pushing the women's team motivation for the rest of the set. The final set score was 25-16.

The Hawks had a slow start to their fourth set, dropping behind in a 6 point deficit. This did not last long, as Humber quickly gained their footing and closed the difference. Coming back and being within points of the Alumni, the victory was surprisingly snatched from them as they lost the fourth set 25-22.

Instead of the usual 15 point finish in the final set, both teams decided to fight to 25.

During this final match between team Alumni and the Hawks, the players were fighting point by point for the lead. Neither team got too far in front of one another, causing for a nail biting final set. At 19-19, the Hawks began to slowly pull away, coming out with the satisfying victory of 25-23.

This match vividly displayed the amazing talent of Humber's current and past volleyball players, and was definitely a match you wouldn't want to miss.
