Wickstrom Announced as Humber Volleyball's Latest Recruit

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks women's volleyball program continues its offseason rebuilding with the signing of Aideena Wickstrom, announced head coach Chris Wilkins. Wickstrom is the sixth recruit announced by Coach Wilkins so far this summer.

"We're excited to have Aideena join the Hawks this year," said Coach Wilkins, the 2009 CCAA Coach of the Year recipient. "She comes with great energy and a ton of athleticism."

Playing volleyball in Alberta, Wickstrom won a provincial championship with the WHAM! Enigma club as the 13-seed, and was named a tournament all-star.

With the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams, Wickstrom won a Southern Alberta High School League (SAHSL) gold medal in 2017 and was named a first-team all-star. The Rams went on to capture the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) bronze medal.

"I wanted to move to Toronto to gain new experiences in a more diverse setting," said Wickstrom. "I chose Humber College because of its athletic and academic reputation."

Wickstrom has enrolled in the Sport Management program, a three-year advanced diploma at Humber College.

"Aideena joins a strong rookie class coming from Alberta, Nova Scotia, Italy and different parts of Ontario, which will push everyone to get better and help build an extremely deep team," added Coach Wilkins. "I look forward to helping her grow as a volleyball player, and I'm confident she will be an instant contributor."

Wickstrom will join incoming recruits Olivia Foley, Hayley Henderson, Lauren Schneider, Danae Campana and Karlee Manella for the 2018-19 varsity year, as the Hawks look to capture their 12th consecutive provincial title.

Last season, Humber finished 26-0 in OCAA play, extending its conference win streak to 152 straight matches.

Humber volleyball tryouts begin September 4, and all full-time Humber and UGH students are welcome to attend. Any student wishing to attend tryouts are encouraged to fill out the online Prospective Athlete Form.
