HAWKS LOOK TO COMPLETE PERFECT REGULAR SEASON WEDNESDAY

HAMILTON, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team will complete the 2016-17 regular season on the road on Wednesday night against another playoff bound team, the Mohawk Mountaineers.

LAST TIME OUT VS MOHAWK

In their first and only meeting of the season, it was the Hawks that dispatched the Mountaineers at home in three straight sets (25-18, 25-11, 25-16). Mohawk entered that match up on a roll, winners of four straight. Humber placed three players in double figures in scoring, led by Devan O'Connor's 15. Breanna Golding and Alexandra Newman checked in with marks of 13 and 13, respectively. No Mountaineer scored in double figures, with six being the highest point total in the match.

SCOUTING MOHAWK

  • Mohawk has settled into the fifth spot in the West, and will travel to Belleville to play Loyalist (11-6, 4th East) in a sudden death crossover playoff game
  • They have pinballed wins and losses this semester – win 2, lose 2, win 1, lose 2, win 1, but their latest was an impressive 3-1 win at Redeemer
  • The Mountaineers are in the middle of the pack in most statistical categories, but rank high in the serving categories, with  159 aces (5th) and an average of 2.74 service aces per set (6th)
  • Kirsten Bialachowski leads the team in scoring with an average of 3.3 points per set. Three players check in with marks of over 2.0 pps, including kills leader Yvonne Mann (96 kills)

HAWK NOTES

  • Humber is 28-1 all-time versus Mohawk
  • The Hawks clinched the West Division crown for the sixth consecutive season
  • They are among the leaders in almost every statistical category, including first in hitting percentage (.322) and aces per set (3.19)
  • Devan O'Connor and Breanna Golding have dropped a few spots in the league scoring leader standings, but the two boast very healthy marks of 4.0 pps
  • Setter Gabie Miletic has recorded 357 assists and currently ranks third in the league with an average of 7.60 assists per set
  • This is the last regular season game for middle Alexandra Newman (5 years) and Ashleigh Darrach (4 years). Congratulations!

RECORD WATCH

  • The Hawks have won 126 consecutive OCAA league and playoff games
  • Fifth year middle Alley Newman has moved from fifth to fourth all-time at Humber in blocks (115), but is unlikely to move to number three on the list
  • Head Coach Chris Wilkins currently sits in third place of all-time Hawk coaching wins with 312 victories, and only trails his brother Wayne (men's volleyball coach) by one and the overall leader Mike Katz (318) by six.
