No. 2 HAWKS DOWN ROYALS FOR STRAIGHT SET VICTORY

ETOBICOKE, Ont – The no. 2 Humber Hawks women's volleyball team (15-0, 1st West) defeated the Redeemer Royals (6-9, 6th West) in straight sets (25-13, 25-23, 25-17) on Thursday evening at the Humber Athletic Centre.

Humber extended their OCAA win streak to 124 games and defeated the Royals for the second time this year in straight sets. The first set saw the Hawks dominate the action as they held a five point lead for the majority of the frame and finished things off with a 7-1 run to close it out. Elizabeth Deakin-Poot led the Hawks in the set as she racked up 5 points with three kills, and two aces.

The second set was far more competitive as the Hawks fell behind 12-16 midway through the frame. Humber was able to rally back however and managed to tie things up at 19 a side before closing out the tight set taking it by just two points 25-23. Devan O'Connor was key for the Hawks in the frame with four kills. She was clutch late scoring the team's final three points to close the set.

In the third frame Humber would reestablish their play from early on in the match as they pulled ahead 7-4 early in the set and didn't relinquish that lead. First year player Breanna Golding was the Hawks top performer in this set chipping in with four kills and an ace. Humber would go on a 9-2 run to close out the frame taking it 25-17 and putting away the Royals in the third.

The Hawks Nation player of the match was third-year played Elizabeth Deakin-Poot who finished the match with nine points, four kills, four aces, and a block.

Humber will take on the Fanshawe Falcons (8-6, 4th West) this Saturday, February 4th at the Humber Athletic Centre in their final home game of the season. First Serve is set for 1pm.
