No. 2 HAWKS RALLY TO DEFEAT CAMBRIAN IN FOUR SETS

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The no. 2 Humber Hawks women's volleyball team (12-0, 1st West) defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield (4-9, 8th West) in four sets (17-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-17) on Sunday afternoon at Humber North Campus.

The Hawks started off the match slow as they dropped only their second set on the season to the eighth place Golden Shield but turned things around to take the next three sets rather convincingly to defeat Cambrian for the second time this season and move to 12-0.

The Hawks standout performers of the match were Brynne Coleman (Sparta), who finished with a season-high 13 points.  West Division scoring leader Devan O'Connor (Milton) finished with 14 points, while Alexandra Newman (Kitchener) picked up three more stuffed blocks and now has 104 for her career.

Coleman was outstanding in the second set, where she served the Hawks to an 8-0 lead as Humber answered the opening loss with a 25-11 win of their own.

Newman and O'Connor combined for twenty kills and four blocks after bouncing back from a slow start to pace their team to the victory. Humber dominated the final set where they would go on a 9-0 run in the middle of the frame to take a 20-10 lead, finishing the frame 25-17 and winning the match.

Humber will take on the second place Niagara Knights (10-1) in their next match on Thursday, January 26 at the Humber Athletic Centre.  First serve is set for 6pm.
