ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team, the number two ranked team in the country, will host a pair of games this coming weekend at the Humber Athletic Centre. On Saturday evening, Boreal will be the opponent, and Sunday afternoon will bring Cambrian.

LAST TIME OUT: VS BOREAL
Humber had little problem with Boreal in their first meeting in the Fall, winning in straight sets (25-8, 25-9, 25-2). Due to the quickness of the game, there were no significant individual offensive performances by the Hawk players. Of note though, is that middle Elizabeth Deakin-Poot ran off 21 straight points in the third and final set to close the match out.
SCOUTING BOREAL
- The Vipers have struggled all season, and are winners of only two sets in 11 matches
- Emilie Goulet is the top offensive player for Boreal, and checks in with a very slim average of 1.7 points per set
- As a team, the Vipers have a league low hitting percentage of .003%
- Dating back to the 1997 season, Boreal has never beaten a Humber squad, and sit at 0-14 all-time against the Hawks
LAST TIME OUT: VS CAMBRIAN
Despite their current record, Cambrian has had an outstanding program for a number of years. They always find a way to play the Hawks tough, and did just that in the only meeting between these two teams in Sudbury early in the season. Humber won 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16), but were challenged in every set. A trio of Hawks scored in double figures, led by freshman Breanna Golding and her 20 offensive points (12kills, 6 aces, 2 blocks). Kailey Bastien led the Golden Shield on the day, with 12 points.
SCOUTING CAMBRIAN
- They continue to have outstanding coaching, led by Dale Beausoleil and his 27 years of experience as a head coach in the OCAA
- Nine of the 14 players for the Golden Shield are freshman
- Their offense is balanced, with four players checking in with offensive averages above the 2.0 pps mark
- Leading scorer Jillian Vallier leads the team in two offensive categories (77 kills, 24 aces) and is second in the other (18 blocks)
- Kendra Muffo is fourth in the entire league in assists, with 234
HAWK NOTES
- Veteran Devan O'Connor continues to be the offensive leader on the Hawks this season, and is inching towards the top in OCAA scoring. Currently second in the entire OCAA, O'Connor checks in with an average of 4.4 points per set, based on 95 kills, 23 aces and 10 blocks
- Freshman Breanna Golding is quickly making her case for a number of post-season honours as she is scoring at a 3.9 pps rate, good enough for eighth spot in the league
- Humber leads the entire league with a hitting percentage of .328, and service aces per set at 3.52
- Setter Gabie Miletic checks in with 209 assists (8th), and an average of 7.74 assists per set (4th)
HAWKS HISTORY WATCH
- Adding in the Hawks 10-0 record in the 2016/17 season, they are currently on a run of 119 straight OCAA league and play-off wins
- With her 17 blocks in the first ten games, middle Alexandra Newman moved up to fourth all-time for the Hawks, and now sits just 24 blocks away from reaching number 3
- Devan O'Connor's current mark of 3.28 kills per set has vaulted her up to the 2nd best all time for a single season for Hawk players. Legend Christine Rudics (4.17 in 97/98) had carried four of the top five spots, including the top three.
