LAST TIME OUT VS SHERIDAN

The two teams were battling for first place in the West Division, as the Hawks were 5-0 and the Bruins 4-1. Humber came out strong and went on to complete the tree-set sweep by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14. Breanna Golding and Devan O'Connor led the way for the Hawks with 14 offensive points each. Not a single Sheridan player even got to the six point mark, with Tara Aune leading the way, with five points.

HAWK NOTES

  • Humber is coming off a very successful holiday schedule that saw them go 8-2 against some of the best college and university teams from Ontario eastward. The latest was a 3-1 record against RSEQ teams, which included a 3-1 win over the CCAA nationally 7th ranked team from Laurendeau
  • Veteran Devan O'Connor is having a terrific year, and leads the Hawks with an impressive mark of 4.4 points per set average. She is 1st in aces per set average, 2nd in points per set and 4th in total aces
  • Freshman Breanna Golding has not only made a statement for OCAA Rookie of the Year, but also in first team all-star balloting. She checks in at 3.9 points per set, and is the top ten of nine significant statistical categories
  • The Hawks, as a team, rank 1st in hitting percentage (.345) and service aces per set (3.68)
  • Head Coach Chris Wilkin's continues to see his win total rise, as he now sits with 304 career league and play-off victories

SCOUTING SHERIDAN

  • After a solid start, the Bruins have lost 3 of their last 4, but won a key road game versus Mohawk to finish the first half at 5-4. There are five teams fighting for the last three play-off spots, with Sheridan seemingly in control of their own destiny
  • Without a standout offensive force, the Bruins rely on a number of players to provide offence. They have five players averaging above 2.0 point per set, led by Taylor Ley and her mark of 2.7 pps
  • Sheridan has very strong leadership, as their head coach Scott Hunt was the 2014/15 OCAA Coach of the Year
  • They lead the league in total assists (318) and assists per set (9.64)

HAWKS HISTORY WATCH

  • Adding in the Hawks 9-0 record in the 2016/17 season, they are currently on a run of 118 straight OCAA league and play-off wins
  • Devan O'Connor's current mark of 4.4 pps leaves her just outside of the Hawks top ten of single season offensive scorers. She needs to elevate to 4.5 to crack the top ten
  • With her 16 blocks in the first nine games, middle Alexandra Newman moved up to fourth all-time for the Hawks, and now sits just 25 blocks away from reaching number 3
