HAWKS ENTER ROYALS DEN ON WEDNESDAY IN FALL FINALE

ANCASTER, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team (8-0, 1st West) will close out the Fall Semester schedule on Wednesday night in Ancaster, as they will face the tough Redeemer Royals (3-5, 7th West).

Last Time Out

The Hawks have been on quite a roll over the past number of years, not allowing any teams into the win column, including Redeemer. The last time these two teams battled resulted in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-18) Humber win, last season in the den of the Royals.

Hawk Notes

  • The Hawks players and coaching staff are aware of two huge factors when visiting the Royals. First is the low ceiling, which more often than not will result in ending a rally. The second is the rabid and boisterous Redeemer home crowd. Their impact on a game is well chronicled throughout the league.
  • Veteran Devan O'Connor continues to carry the hot hand for the Hawks offensively. With her effort in the sweep of St. Clair on Sunday at home, she raised her point per set average to a team leading 4.3
  • Humber ranks high in a number of key team stats: 1st in Hitting Percentage (.362), 1st in Aces Per Set (3.68) and fewest errors (61).
  • With the exception of the game vs. Boreal, where she played just a single set, freshman Breanna Golding has scored in double figures in each game she has played at Humber
  • After achieving his 300th win a couple of weeks ago, head coach Chris Wilkins is closing in on his brothers all-time Humber volleyball wins mark. He currently sits at 303, to brother Wayne's 308

Scouting Redeemer

  • The Royals have experienced a roller-coaster season to date. They flip-flopped wins and losses over their first six, before falling behind with three straight defeats
  • In their last 12 games, spanning the last year and a half, they are 7-5 on home court
  • Although they rank mid to low in many areas of team statistics, their ability to block is among the league's best. They are 1st in blocks per set (2.65) and 2nd in total blocks (82)
  • Veteran Charlene DeVries continues to be the marquee player for the Royals. She not only leads the team in offense, at 3.5 points per set, she is in the top six of every blocking category
  • Only one other player checks in with a points per set mark of over 2. Rebekah Nash is playing ata 2.3 pps pace
  • Setter Lexi Nieman has been solid, and sits 5th in league standings, with 180 assists

Hawks History Watch

  • Adding in the Hawks 8-0 record in the 2016/17 season, they are currently on a run of 117 straight OCAA league and play-off wins
  • Devan O'Connor's current mark of 4.3 pps leaves her just outside of the Hawks top ten of single season offensive scorers. She needs to elevate to 4.5 to crack the top ten
  • With her 14 blocks in the first eight games, middle Alexandra Newman moved up to fourth all-time for the Hawks, and now sits just 27 blocks away from reaching number 3
