HAWKS HEAD DOWN HWY. 401 SATURDAY FOR CLASH WITH FALCONS

HAWKS HEAD DOWN HWY. 401 SATURDAY FOR CLASH WITH FALCONS

LONDON, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team, the number two ranked team in the nation, will look to build on its perfect 5-0 regular season record this Saturday afternoon in London as they will battle the Fanshawe Falcons. The first serve is set for 1:00 pm, from the Fanshawe College Athletic Centre.

As mentioned above, the Hawks are the only undefeated team in the West Division, and are one of only two with unblemished records in the entire 20 team league. They currently hold a percentage lead over two teams, who also check in with five wins. The host Falcons have a mark of three wins and four losses, but are coming off a 3-1 win on Tuesday at Conestoga.

The two teams have actually met this year, and that was in the championship game at the Niagara Invitational. The Hawks snared the tournament title by winning the match in three straight sets.

Newcomers to the Hawks squad made a significant impact in the Niagara Invitational, and those same players have continued to be major factors in every Hawk victory this year.  Freshman Breanna Golding was the MVP there, and currently leads the entire Hawk team in scoring. Setter Gabie Miletic, a transfer from the University of Windsor, is the one who orchestrates the offence. She not only a skilled player who makes great on-court decisions, she has contributed offensively with her ability to score points by completing a kill or well-placed ball dump.

Fanshawe boasts a very even balanced attack, led by Lindsay Wilcox and her mark of 3.0 points per set. Three other Falcons players check in with marks of over 2.0 pps. Wilcox, in what is sometimes unusual for an offensive threat, also lead the entire Falcons squad in digs, with 81.
