The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team drove up to Sudbury to play a double-header against Cambrian and Boreal.

On Friday, Humber won 3-0 against Cambrian.

Humber started off the match down a few points to Cambrian while they established a rhythm. Around 4 points Humber established themselves with an attack and got the ball rolling on their side.

First-year left side Breanna Golding led the match with 11 kills.

The ability to establish the middle helped the Hawks all game. Fifth-year Newman had 10 kills and 2 blocks for the match. Humber could only run the middle on a good pass, which for the beginning of the first set was a weak point for Humber.

Toward the end of the first set, Humber took off with hard serves and gained some momentum on their side. Hawks take set one, 25-20

Tough serving continued to be an asset for the Hawks later in the match.  Golding lead the match in service aces with a total of 5. Both left-side Devan O'Connor and middle, Elizabeth Deakin-Poot had 3 service aces each. However, things weren't going in Humber's favour, and they were allowing Cambrian to go on runs of up to 4 points.

"We could all agree that it was an improvement from the first set, but it still wasn't our type of game. We know it wasn't our caliber of volleyball… it was the little things that were going wrong. " said Deakin-Poot, "Half way through the set though, things felt a little better, and we started getting back to what we know, and how we play."

Despite the feel on the court, Humber takes the second set 25-19

Humber started off stronger in the third, improving a little each set. With more communication on the court, the Hawks dictated the flow of the game better, and there seemed to be a more cohesive feel on the court. A few substitutions toward the end of the game allowed Humber to utilize the bench as well.

Humber takes set 3 25-16.

Sunday

The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team improved their season record to 3-0 today with a win against Boreal.

Humber's game plan was to focus on perfecting the basics, and focusing on running plays they had been practicing while maintaining their pace on offense.

Humber began the match serving very tough, and although a lot of balls weren't coming back from the tough serves, the Hawks were ready to transition into their offense.

Second-year left side Devan O'Connor lead the match in kills with a total of 6.

Humber took set one,  25-8

Into the second set, Humber maintained a good level of focus and continued to focus on their game plan from the service line.

A very consistent match for the Hawks across all platforms allowed for them to maintain a steady lead throughout the match. Most balls that were returned were free balls as the Viperes struggled to receive the serves which gave Humber's offense lots of options.

Set two goes to the Hawks, 25-9

The beginning of the third set started strong, and at 5-2 for Humber the game took an exciting turn.

Third-year middle, Elizabeth Deakin-Poot served from the 5 point mark to close out the game. This consisted of a whopping 20 serves, 11 of which were aces.

The final score of game three was 25-2 for Humber.

Humber will take on the Sheridan Bruins next on November 17, 2016.
