FORMER OUA SETTER JOINS HAWKS FOR UPCOMING SEASON

ETOBICOKE, ON: The reigning CCAA bronze medal winners have added setter Gabie Miletic to their class of signees joining the program for the upcoming 2016-17 season, announced head coach Chris Wilkins.  A native of Windsor, the five-foot-ten Miletic will bring plenty of volleyball experience to the team after spending two seasons with the Windsor Lancers of the CIS.

"Gabie is a premier setter who will make an immediate impact with the Hawks and will help quarterback our contending National Championship team," said Coach Wilkins, who will be looking for his 300th career win this season with the blue and gold.

With the Lancers, Miletic finished the 2013 season second on the team in total assists and assists-per-set.

"She gained valuable experience playing in the CIS and her setting and offensive ability will be a big asset for us," continued Coach Wilkins.  "Being an older player, her maturity and composure will help her become a leader both on and off the court.  She is a great fit for our program and I'm excited to see how good she can become."

St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Windsor is where Miletic began demonstrating how strong her skillset was in volleyball.  In the four seasons with the St. Joseph's Lasers, she was named team most valuable player each year.

At the club level, Miletic previously competed with the South County Bandits in Windsor, where she played with former Humber Hawk Roshanna Matthews.

"I played with Roshanna my entire career," said Miletic.  "She helped me through some of the toughest times in my life and she was also there for the best times."

Miletic has enrolled in the postgraduate event planning program at Humber College and has set some high goals for the upcoming academic year.

"On the court, I want to help this team excel and reach its full potential," added Miletic.  "Off the court, I want to manage my time more efficiently, allowing myself the opportunity to become a better student-athlete."

Miletic, along with recruits Emma Heeney (Ingersoll), Breanna Golding (Pickering), Celine Blanchette (St. Catharines) and Julia Watson (Burlington), will join the rest of the Humber Hawks volleyball team when training camp begins in July.
