VOLLEYBALL STANDS TALL WITH ADDITION OF BREANNA GOLDING

ETOBICOKE, ON: The reigning provincial champions added outside hitter Breanna Golding to the class of signees joining the program for the 2016-17 season, head coach Chris Wilkins announced Monday.  A native of Pickering, the six-foot-one Golding currently plays for the Scarborough Titans volleyball club.

"We are truly excited to have Breanna join the Hawks," said Coach Wilkins, who is entering his 16th season with Humber.  "I think she can compete to be an impact player for us right away and help us achieve our goal of a National Championship."

Golding will be joining a program that just captured a CCAA bronze medal and has won nine consecutive provincial championships.  The last time Humber lost a match against an OCAA opponent, Golding was still in elementary school.

No stranger to success however; Golding has collected over 30 Ontario Volleyball Association medals, including two national championship gold medals.  She also won a national team challenge cup silver medal competing as member of Team Ontario.

"Her offence and blocking presence will be a huge asset next year," added Coach Wilkins.  "However, I believe her competitive spirit and pursuit for excellence will make some heads turn next season as well.  I'm looking forward to helping Breanna grow as an athlete and watching her progress in a Hawks uniform for years to come."

Golding will be enrolled in the early childhood development program, a two-year diploma.

"A big reason why I selected Humber College was because of the variety of programs they offer," Golding said.  "I chose early childhood development studies because I would like to be a teacher."

It's not all about volleyball for Golding, who aspires to be successful on and off the court.

"My personal goals are to seek success at every opportunity in the classroom and to develop and reach greater heights in my volleyball career."

Golding, along with recruits Celine Blanchette (St. Catharines) and Julia Watson (Burlington) will join the rest of the Humber Hawks volleyball team when training camp begins in July.
