HAWKS HOST NIAGARA IN OCAA SHOWDOWN

ETOBICOKE, ON: Looking to begin the season with six straight wins, the Humber Hawks will be hosting the Niagara College Knights Thursday evening. The Hawks will be playing their toughest match so far this season, as the Knights won the OCAA Bronze Medal last year and are currently in second place in the tough West Division.

Both teams enter this match ranked in the CCAA and the entire league will be watching in anticipation of the final results. The Hawks, ranked fourth in the country, have won 13 straight sets and are the only remaining undefeated team in the West.

Dating back to 2004, these two teams have met 19 times during the regular season and the Hawks have won all 19 matchups. When playing at the Humber Athletic Centre, the Hawks are a perfect 9-0 and have won 27 out of a possible 29 sets.

The Knights are coming off a straight set sweep of the Sheridan Bruins and have currently won six straight sets. Middle blocker Devon Lowes paced the way for the Knights in that match, finishing with a game-high 16 points.

The last match the Hawks played was a road game against the Mohawk Mountaineers. In typical Humber fashion, fifth-year outside hitter Thalia Hanniman led the Hawks in the 3-0 victory. The CCAA All-Canadian finished with a game-high 16 points, the fourth time this season she finished with double-digit scoring.

Second-year outside hitter Kelsey Kovar helped Humber win 3-1 the last time Niagara was in town. The fitness and health major finished with a game-high 15 points, including three service aces and nine digs. Setter Bailey Davis had 27 assists for the Knights in the loss.

This match will showcase two of the OCAA's highest scoring student-athletes, with Hanniman ranked third (4.4 ppg) and Niagara's Devon Lowes ranked eighth (3.5 ppg).
