FIVE HAWKS CLAIM ALL-OCAA HONOURS FOLLOWING PERFECT REGULAR SEASON

At the 2018 OCAA Awards Banquet, Humber received five all-star selections, along with the top defensive team, central division defensive player of the year, and central division rookie of the year awards.

TORONTO, Ont – After finishing the regular season with a perfect 10-0-0 record for the second straight year, No. 4 Humber women's soccer reaped the benefits Wednesday evening when the league announced its yearly awards as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

The team was awarded the Central Division plaque for the 16th time, and after surrendering zero goals and allowing a league-low 1.7 shots-per-match, Humber's backline – comprised of Remi Pelletier, Taylor Thomson, Mikaela Zeballos, and Dominika Philip – was named the top defensive team for the fourth time in five years.

Leading the way with individual awards was second-year defender Dominika Philip, who became the fifth Hawk to be named the Division Defensive Player of the Year.

Playing a significant role in Humber's staunch midfield, freshman Lily Campbell was named the Division Rookie of the Year after appearing in eight matches for the Hawks this season.

Including Philip and Campbell, three other Hawks were named to the OCAA All-Star team. For the second time in their respective careers, Hayley Mackie and Claudia Piazza received all-star nods; while Zoe Longsworth earned the honour for the first time.

After receiving all-star and rookie honours in 2016, Mackie was named an all-star once again, playing in nine matches and scoring the game-winner in Humber's final regular season match.

Claudia Piazza received all-star honours for the second straight year, making a flawless transition to Humber's midfield and making its transition game the best in the league.

After scoring a career-high eight goals this season, Zoe Longsworth was named an all-star for the first time during her three-year career. In 26 career regular season matches, Longsworth has recorded 15 tallies for Humber, good for ninth all-time in program history.

Humber women's soccer has now accumulated 56 all-star selections since 1996.

The end of the banquet marks the beginning of the 2018 OCAA Championship tournament, hosted by Seneca College. Top-ranked Humber will square-off against St. Clair in the quarter-finals on Oct. 25. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the live stream can be found here.
