HAWKS DOMINATE AGAIN WITH 6-0 HOME OPENER WIN OVER UTM

VAUGHAN, ON: The Humber Hawks women's soccer team (2-0, 1st Central) took to the pitch at Vaughan Grove for their 2018 home opener, and comfortably knocked off the University of Toronto (UTM) Eagles (0-1) by a score of 6-0.

To say the Hawks scored "early and often" was truly indicative of the way this game began. Just a minute into the match, Giulia Zanardi continued her torrid goal scoring pace, one that has continued for a second consecutive year, by converting a nice pass into the bottom left of the Eagles net.

Less than two minutes later, Zoe Longsworth upped the score to 2-0 on a very similar strike to Zanardi's.

Similar bang-bang goals came two minutes apart at the nine minute mark of the first half. First was star transfer Nicole Lyon, followed closely behind by Longworth's second marker of the night.

Fatima Fuentes-Martinez completed the scoring in the first half, driving a ball into the back of the net at the 37th minute.

UTM looked to regroup at the half, but when they returned they saw a much different Hawk team, as coaches Mauro Ongaro and Vince Pileggi made a number of personnel changes.

The second half still saw the Hawks control and dominate, not allowing the Eagles an opportunity to break the whitewash. Humber did add on to the 5-0 lead at the 82nd minute, as Megan Voutour scored her first of the season.

In what was becoming commonplace, Hawk keeper Vanessa Fiore was credited with the clean sheet.

Humber recorded 15 shots on goal, while the UTM squad could only manage two.

Zoe Longsworth was selected as the Hawk Nation Player of the Game.

WHAT'S NEXT:

Humber will travel to Kitchener next Wednesday for a tilt against the Conestoga Condors.
