HAWKS DREAM OF AN OCAA MEDAL DIES IN A SHOOTOUT

PETERBOROUGH, ON: The Humber Hawks women's soccer team was eliminated from medal contention in the opening game of the 2015 OCAA Women's Soccer Championship, as they lost 1-0 via the shootout to the Cambrian Golden Shield.

The Hawks entered the quarterfinal match as the Central Division Champions, with their opponent checking in as the second best team in the East. These two teams met last year at the Provincial Championships, with the Golden Shield grabbing a win there as well.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 through the first half, and continued that way through the second and thirty minutes of overtime.

Cue the shootout. With both teams scoring along the way, it was Cambrian who had the opportunity to take the win and entry into the Championship Semi-Finals, but with their fifth shot did not find the net. With the miss, the Hawks were still alive. Humber stepped up for sudden death penalty kicks, and missed, opening the door once again for Cambrian. The Golden Shield player stepped up and scored to secure the win.

Humber will now head back to the pitch on Friday morning in the Consolation Semi Final against a familiar foe in Sheridan College, with kick off scheduled for 9:00 am.
