RUGBY SEVENS EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 17
MARKHAM, Ont – The Humber rugby sevens team (9-0, 1st OCAA) extended its win streak to 17 straight matches after sweeping through the third tournament of the season.
HUMBER 44, MOHAWK 0
Three tries from Christina Branch in game one led the Hawks to a 44-0 win over Mohawk College (2-8, 9th OCAA). Cheyenne De Luca added two tries of her own, while Emily Maclean, Deandra Medford, and Hayley O'Donoghue each had a try.
Humber improves to 2-0 against the Mountaineers this season, outscoring Mohawk 80-0.
HUMBER 28, FLEMING 17
Meeting for the first time in rugby sevens, Fleming College (6-3, 2nd OCAA) had a chance at handing the Hawks their first loss of the season. The Knights scored 17 first-half points, the most by any team so far this season, and led at half 17-7.
Humber regrouped in the second-half and was able to score 21-unanswered points to come away with the 28-17 win.
Cheyenne De Luca added three more tries on the day, while Branch and Tatiana Fitzgerald kicked two converts each.
HUMBER 21, ALGONQUIN 5
Daniella Grant scored all three tries for the Humber, as the Hawks rolled past their former rival Algonquin 21-5. Fitzgerald added three more converts for the day.
Humber Highlights
- Christina Branch needs four more converts to establish a new OCAA single-season record. Former Hawk Charli Mocon currently holds the record with 24 converts last season.
- In Humber's 44-0 win over Mohawk, Hayley O'Donoghue scored her first career try as a Humber Hawk.
- In two matches, Cheyenne De Luca matched her season total of 25 points and now has 50 for the season.
What's Next:
The Hawks will take a break for the Thanksgiving weekend and will return to OCAA action on October 15, where they will play four matches at Fleming College.
