No. 4 Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six

ETOBICOKE — Humber women's basketball picked up the win in the opening game of their weekend double-header, defeating the visiting Lambton Lions (5-4, 5th West), 73-63, Saturday afternoon at the North Campus Gym.

Felicia Velasquez picked up her second double-double of the season, as she led the way for the Hawks finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block.

It was a sluggish first half for the undefeated Hawks on offence as they shot just 12-of-42 (28.6 percent) to begin the game. Humber was far more impressive on the defensive end, as they held Lambton to just 29 points in the half giving them a seven-point lead at the break.

Humber continued to set the tone on the defensive end in the second half, forcing the Lions to take bad shots as they finished with just 12 points on 3-13 (23.1%) shooting in the third quarter.

Lambton made a run in the final quarter as an Ashleigh Pettit three made it just a 4 point game with three minutes left. That would be as close as the Lions would get, however, as Kia Watt drilled a dagger three in the final minute to put the Lions come back to bed. With the win, Humber pushes their winning streak to six games on the season winning this one 73-63.

The Hawks offence benefited from a balanced attack in this one, as five players finished with double figures in scoring. Miea Campbell-Johnson picked up her first double-double of the season finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Despite the loss, it was a standout game for the Lions Breanna Pretty and Akuluel Anyoun, as the duo combined to score 37 of their teams 63 points in the game
