Aleena Domingo signs professional contract to play in France

ETOBICOKE – Two-time national champion Aleena Domingo is taking her talents to Europe where she will continue her basketball career at the professional level. The four-time provincial champion inked her first professional contract and left for France on Nov. 17.

"I'm very excited to begin my professional career," said Domingo. "I am so grateful for this opportunity, and for the support of family, friends and the Humber community that has helped me get to this point."

Domingo signed a one-year contract with US Wittenheim Basket, a French club located in Grand Est in north-eastern France.

"This is a great opportunity for Aleena," said head coach Ajay Sharma. "She showed her versatility on the court during her time with Humber, and she demonstrated in Taiwan that she is ready for the next level. I'm happy to see all of her hard work pay off."

For five seasons, Domingo and the Hawks dominated the CCAA, capturing two national championships and four OCAA titles. She retired sixth all-time in league scoring and her 1,134 points are the second-most in program history. Domingo owns the regular-season and career record for rebounds, and her ten postseason double-doubles are the most in program history.

"I never really enjoyed basketball until I came to Humber," added Domingo. "If it wasn't for my Humber family – especially my coaches – I wouldn't be heading to France to fulfill this dream of mine."

Domingo joins Ceejay Nofuente as the second player to sign a professional contract during the Coach Sharma era.
