Women's Basketball Rolls by No. 5 Fanshawe, 86-81

ETOBICOKE — Humber women's basketball won its 2019 home opener Wednesday evening, defeating the No. 5 Fanshawe Falcons (3-1, 2nd West), 86-81, at the North Campus Gym.

Felicia Velasquez led the way for the Hawks recording her first double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals, seven assists and one block. Jahnae Gyles, Miea Campbell-Johnson, Brittney English, Kia Watt, and Ivana Twumasi, all finished in double figures for the Hawks, with Twumasi leading the way with 15 points.

Humber used a 16-4 run midway through the second quarter to take its first lead of the game, one they would take the distance.

Humber used its aggressive defence to set the tone for the game, forcing the Falcons to commit a season-high 30 turnovers.

With the win, the Hawks move to 4-0 on the season, and into second place in the west division.
