Women's Basketball Defeats Sheridan in OT, 72-70

BRAMPTON – Picking up its second road victory to begin the season, No. 14 Humber women's basketball needed overtime to push past Sheridan, 72-70, on Tuesday night.

Transfer Ivana Twumasi led the Hawks in scoring for the second straight game with 18 points, finishing seven-for-14 from the floor. Miea Campbell-Johnson scored 16 points, while senior Jahnae Gyles was also in double figures with ten. Filling up the stat sheet was Felicia Velasquez, finishing with seven points, ten rebounds, and five assists.

The Hawks got out to an early lead, using a 12-2 run to begin the game. Humber's defence prevented the Bruins from scoring for the first five minutes of the game and went into half leading by 13 points.

Theresa Brown got hot for the Bruins in the third frame, scoring 11 of her game-high 32 points in the quarter, cutting Humber's lead to five with ten minutes remaining.

Trailing by three points with two seconds left in the game, Tamya Rowe hit a three-pointer to force overtime.

Sheridan opened the scoring in the extra frame, but four quick points from Jahnae Gyles gave Humber the lead for good. A steal from Amber Bechard with four seconds left secured the win for the Hawks, who open the 2019 campaign with two straight wins.
