No. 11 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CONCLUDES HOMESTAND WITH WIN OVER CONESTOGA, 73-47

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- No. 11 Humber women's basketball (12-2, 2nd West) rolled past the Conestoga Condors (5-9, 7th West) Thursday evening, 73-47, concluding its three-game homestand with a 2-1 record.

Last Sunday, Humber surprised its fans by dropping a home game for the first time in 46 games.  Evidently, the Hawks were looking for redemption and came out with a vengeance. Despite Humber's intense play in the first quarter, the Condors displayed some fight and took an early 11-10 lead. Conestoga, a top-15 scoring team in the province, demonstrated their ability to put up points in bunches. The Hawks would respond with Leticia Lopez knocking down back-to-back three-pointers, forcing the Condors to call a timeout. Humber would not give up their lead again and took over on the defensive end with Makeba Taylor leading the way. The Hawks ability to force turnovers allowed them to jump out to an early 34-26 lead at halftime.

The Hawks are holding opponents to a league-low 29.5 per cent shooting from the floor and they continued their stifling defence, forcing the Condors to shoot contested jumpers all night. Humber held Conestoga to 28.6 per cent (18-for-63) shooting the entire night. Makeba Taylor sent an opponent to the ground after a crossover that made the entire gym erupt with cheers. Taylor continued to lead the way in the second half and converted on an and-1 that gave the Hawks a double-digit lead. Humber began locking down the Condors by forcing countless turnovers while finding their groove on offence. A Leticia Lopez three-pointer to open the fourth quarter helped the Hawks go on a 10-0 run, which put the game away.

Leticia Lopez and Makeba Taylor both scored a team-high 14 points, helping the Hawks get back into the win column. Makeba Taylor was awarded the player of the game for her performance.

In the first quarter, Leticia Lopez became the second player in program history to hit 100 career three-pointers and now sits 15 away from Ceejay Nofuente's single-season mark 65 (2016-17).

What's Next?
No. 11 Humber will head on the road for a two-game weekend series with Sault (0-12, 11th West) Feb. 2-3.
