No. 11 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO No. 2 FANSHAWE, 80-66

ETOBICOKE, Ont – In a back-and-forth contest with a playoff-like atmosphere, No. 11 Humber women's basketball fell to No. 2 Fanshawe, 80-66, Sunday afternoon at the North Campus Gym.

Fourth-year guard Jahnae Gyles led the offence with a season-high 22 points, going seven-for-16 (43.8 per cent) from the floor. Senior Leticia Lopez finished with 15 points, while Miea Campbell-Johnson added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Fanshawe (12-1, 1st West) opened the game on a 13-3 run, controlling the opening frame and forcing the Hawks into 10 turnovers. With 6:28 remaining in the half and trailing by 13, Jahnae Gyles and Laura Meadows combined to score 14 points, cutting Fanshawe's lead to one at the break.

Fanshawe and Humber (11-2, 2nd West) traded one-possession leads for a majority of the second half before the Hawks took a five-point lead with 9:14 left to play. Humber's defence began to tire, allowing the Falcons to end the game on a 29-10 run.

  • Humber falls at the North Campus Gym for the first time since 2014. The Hawks drop to 70-6 at home under the guidance of head coach Ajay Sharma.
  • Fanshawe sweeps the season series for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
  • Humber received a season-low two points from the bench.
