NOFUENTE LEADS CANADA TO COMMONWEALTH GAMES OPENING WIN

AUSTRALIA: Ceejay Nofuente, the three-time CCAA National Player of the Year, stepped on the court for Canada on Friday in the opening match against England in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The opening tip fell into her hands (see image), and she and her Canada teammates went on to a dominating 80-54 win. Nofuente, just fresh off her second CCAA National Championship win, aided the cause with some solid play, and she has the numbers to back it up. Playing 21:51 minutes, third highest on the team, she contributed in almost every category. She finished with 9 points (2/6 field, 2/4 from 3, 3/4 free throw), 3 rebounds, 5 assists and a team-high 3 steals.

Daneesha Prov and Shay Colley led Canada with 14 points, while Alex Kiss-Rusk chipped in 10.

Canada will take to the court once again on April 8, against the host and the heavily favoured Australian team. They will finish pool play on April 9 vs Mozambique.
