Freshman Makeba Taylor finished with a career-high 14 points as No. 1 Humber won its 70th consecutive OCAA game.

ETOBICOKE, Ont – No.1 Humber's women's basketball team (12-0, 1st West) picked up their first OCAA win of 2018 with a 98-35 victory over Conestoga Saturday afternoon at the Humber North Campus gym.
Ceejay Nofuente led the way for the Hawks, picking up her third triple-double of the season finishing the game with 19 points, 12 steals, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Four other Humber players finished with double figures, including first-year Makeba Taylor who set a career high with 14 points.
Conestoga (3-9, 9th West) struggled to find open looks against the Hawks top-ranked defence in the opening frame shooting 30 percent (3-of-10) from the field, and turning the ball over 13 times, leading to easy transition buckets for Humber. On the offensive end, Humber used their outside shooting to help spread the floor leading to easy put backs and post ups for the Hawks inside. They finished the quarter with 28 points on 36.7 percent (11-of-30) shooting knocking down four threes and picking up 12 steals.
Humber continued to hound Conestoga on the defensive end in the second, forcing a season-high 21 turnovers in the quarter with 16 steals. Ceejay Nofuente led the way on that end picking up eight of the teams steals in the quarter. Humber benefited on the offensive end as the Condors turnovers led to 20 extra possessions in the frame. By the half, the Hawks had already set a new season-high in steals with 28 and built up a 47-point lead, allowing just four made baskets in the game.
The Hawks performance dipped on both ends of the floor in the third still outscoring the Condors but only by seven points. Humber struggled shooting in the frame, converting only 2-of-12 from behind the arc and hitting just 28 percent of their takes as a team. On defence, they allowed the Condors to crack double digits in a quarter for the first time in the game allowing 12 points while turning them over just seven times.
The Hawks offence picked back up in the final frame with 22 points on 39% from the floor.The Condors had their best quarter in the fourth putting up 13 points on 35.7 percent, shooting thanks in part to going 3-of-5 from behind the arc. By this point though the game was well in hand as the Hawks rolled to their first victory of the New Year 98-35.
Humber's effort on the defensive end led to a new season high for steals in a game with 39. First-year guard Makeba Taylor was named Hawks nation player of the game finishing with 14 points, four steals, and three rebounds. With Aleena Domingo's 10 points, and 11 rebounds in the game, she now sits just 17 points away from 1000 and 19 boards away from becoming the first Humber player to reach 600 in program history.
Humber's next game will be on Fri. January 19 against the Lambton Lions (0-11, 10th West). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Humber North Campus gym.
