No. 1 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HEADING TO FLORIDA OVER BREAK

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- With the conclusion of the 2017 portion of its OCAA schedule, top-ranked Humber women's basketball will be heading south to the Sunshine State over the holiday break.

Coach Sharma and the Hawks will be facing three National Junior Colleges Athletic Association (NJCAA) teams over the break, beginning with the 2017 Daytona State Classic Dec. 29 - 30.  The marquee matchup on the trip will see No. 1 Humber play No. 16 Chipola on Dec. 30 at 3.pm.

Scouting Daytona State – Dec. 29 | 5 p.m.

  • Members of the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA), the Daytona State Falcons currently own a 10-6 record and sit first overall in the Mid-Florida Conference.
  • Ranked 54th in the NJCAA in scoring, the Falcons are averaging 74.9 points-per-game. 
  • Sophomore Destiny Arvinger is leading the Falcons in scoring, averaging 15.4 ppg. Skyler Snider and Jayla Atmore round out the double-digit scorers for Daytona State.

Scouting Chipola – Dec. 30 | 3 p.m.

  • Currently the 16th ranked program in the nation, the Chipola Indians are 10-3 and own a seven-game win streak.
  • Averaging 77.9 ppg, the Indians sit 32nd in the nation in scoring. Courtajia Sanders leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 ppg.
  • In 2015, Chipola won the program's first NJCAA national championship.
  • After scoring over 1,000 points with the Indians, Evelyn Akhator was selected third overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2017 WNBA draft.

Scouting Palm Beach – Jan. 2 | 5 p.m

  • The Panthers sit third in the Southern Conference of the FCSAA with a record of 4-7.
  • Sophomore Caitlyn Smith leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 ppg, including a season-high 32 points against Florida State – Jacksonville.
  • As a team, Palm Beach State is scoring 63.2 ppg (123rd), while allowing 66.9 ppg (143rd).

Conference Play 
No. 1 Humber will return to OCAA action on Jan. 13 to host Conestoga (3-8, 7th West) at the North Campus Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
