BRAMPTON, Ont -- Behind balanced scoring and a scorching defence, No. 1 Humber women's basketball (8-0, 1st West) downed Sheridan, 103-32, Thursday evening at Davis Campus. Ceejay Nofuente paced a triplet of Humber players to finish with a double-double, as the Hawks held the Bruins to 18.2 percent shooting (12-of-66) and 20 turnovers.
Nofuente recorded her third double-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 25 points and ten rebounds. Aleena Domingo added 20 points and ten rebounds, while Beryl Mefful finished with ten points and 12 boards.
Humber dominated the glass, outrebounding Sheridan 83-29, marking the first time the Hawks had 80-plus rebounds in a game since Jan. 13, 2016 at Cambrian.
Brianna Stewart led the Bruins with 11 points on 3-of-19 shooting, while Theresa Brown added six points of her own.
After finishing the first quarter ahead, 29-8, Humber started the second frame on a 13-0 run. The Hawks ended the half shooting 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from behind the arc, highlighted by Nofuente's five first-half triples. Jahnae Gyles added nine points as the Hawks went into the half up 58-15.
Humber's defence continued to stifle the Bruins in the second half, limiting Sheridan 9.1 percent (1-of-11) from 3-point range.
Humber would coast in the second half, moving to 8-0 in league play.
Humber Highlights:
- Humber was 12-for-33 on 3-point attempts, marking the fifth time this season the Hawks have recorded 10-plus triples in a game.
- After flirting with a double-double all season long, Aleena Domingo recorded her first of the season.
Game Notes:
- Humber has now won six straight against the Bruins, improving to 14-13 all-time against Sheridan. The Hawks currently own an all-time winning record against every team in the OCAA West Division.
- Humber is now one win away from tying the OCAA consecutive win record of 67, set by Algonquin from Nov. 5, 2011, to Jan. 15, 2015.
