ETOBICOKE THUNDER GUARD SIGNS WITH HUMBER BASKETBALL
ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks women's basketball program – winner's of 58 consecutive OCAA regular and postseason games – are pleased to announce the signing of Teresa Da Silva.
"Teresa is a tough defensive guard that can create shots for her teammates," said head coach Ajay Sharma, the 2016 CCAA Coach of the Year. "We expect her to translate well into our style of play."
Da Silva, a five-foot-six point guard from Toronto, has been playing competitive basketball for over a decade. Graduating from Michael Power/St. Joseph High School in Etobicoke, Da Silva was given the Team Leadership Award for the senior women's basketball program.
"I chose Humber College because I felt it was the best place for me to succeed both academically and athletically," said Da Silva. "Humber offers a great nursing program and has one of the top women's basketball programs in the country."
Da Silva has enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing program at Humber College, a collaborative program with the University of New Brunswick.
"I chose this program because of its hands-on opportunities that allow for real-life application of the skills learned in the classroom," added Da Silva.
Competing for the Etobicoke Thunder, Da Silva named most valuable player for the U19 team.
"My goals on the court this season are to improve my offensive game and to do whatever is needed by the team to have a successful season," she added.
Da Silva, along with incoming recruits Jaime Gordon and Laura Meadows will join the rest of the Hawks basketball team on the first day of tryouts on September 5 at the North Campus Gym.
