NO. 1 HAWKS CLOSE OUT FIRST HALF ON #HERETOPLAY NIGHT

ETOBICOKE, Ont – The no. 1 Humber Hawks women's basketball team (8-0, 1st West) will wrap up the Fall half of their schedule Wednesday evening when the no. 8 Mohawk Mountaineers (6-2, 3rd West) visit the Humber Athletic Centre.

Last Time Out
In front of a rowdy home crowd, the Hawks extended their OCAA road win streak to 20 games  with a 77-56 win against the Redeemer Royals (4-4, 6th West). Forward Aleena Domingo (Toronto) grabbed a regular season career-high 18 rebounds, while scoring 13 points. 

#HERETOPLAY
Wednesday evening will feature the partnership between Humber Athletics and Humber's LGBTQ+ Resource Centre.  Approximately 15 minutes prior to tip-off, the ceremony will begin and features a banner that will be unveiled to signify the establishment of Athletics becoming a safe place and a short video will be played to highlight the importance of sport and the role it can play to promote an inclusive culture.   

Hawks Notes

  • The Hawks have knocked in five-plus threes in all eight games this season.
  • Humber has held opponents to single-digit scoring in a quarter eight times this season.
  • The Hawks have won 25 consecutive regular season games at the Humber Athletic Centre.  Their last loss at home came to the Mohawk Mountaineers on January 16, 2014.
  • The Hawks have been ranked as the number one program in the country for six consecutive weeks.
  • Humber has outscored opponents by an average of 27.6 points-per-game this season, tops in the OCAA.

Scouting Mohawk

  • Mohawk has remained as the eighth ranked program in the country all season long.
  • A loss to Redeemer in their last game ended the Mountaineers six-game winning streak.
  • Mohawk is led by freshman guard Sam Pocrnic, who is seventh in scoring, averaging 17.1 ppg.
  • This will be the 48th regular season meeting between these two programs, with Humber winning the series 34-13.
  • For two consecutive seasons, the Hawks and Mountaineers have met in the OCAA championship game.  All-time, Humber is 3-0 against Mohawk in championship games.
  • In their last meeting, Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) scored a game-high 18 points to help Humber win their second consecutive OCAA Championship.

Hawks History Watch
In their win over Redeemer, the Hawks won the 100th game during the Ajay Sharma era.  Coach Sharma now owns a 100-21 (.826) all-time record, joining legendary Hawks coach Jim Henderson and Denise Perrier as the only coaches to hit the 100 career wins milestone.

The all-time leading scorers in program history continues to change as Hawks superstars Ceejay Nofuente and Aleena Domingo continue to move up the rankings. After scoring 13 points in Humber's win over Redeemer, Domingo surpassed Donna Lidstone for fifth all-time in scoring.
