ETOBICOKE, ON: Winning was the only thing on their minds as the undefeated women's basketball team battled the Fanshawe Falcons on the court tonight. The team maintained their perfect season with a very close 60-57 win.

The back and forth first quarter was a tense start for both teams. With 5 lead changes, the game was really up for grabs. Poor shooting by Humber led to a Fanshawe 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Out of 23 shot attempts the Hawks managed only 5 baskets. Humber's Jill Semple seemed to carry the team through the quarter single handedly earning the team 8 of its 10 points.

Humber was able to regain momentum in the second quarter, scoring 17 points, bringing the score at the end of the first half to 27-18 for the Hawks.

Both teams were as determined as ever moving into the second half. The game saw a slow offensive start with no scoring until the two minute mark. The Falcons fought tooth and nail to regain their early game lead but the Hawks refused to let up.

Tensions were high as the game drew to a close. The Hawks desperate to add to their 26 game winning streak, and the Falcons determined to beat the last undefeated team in the league. The tension could be cut with a knife as Fanshawe worked swiftly to whittle away the gap in scores.

With only two minutes remaining on the clock Fanshawe successfully tied up the score 55-55. A foul riddled second half saw the final score decided through free throws. The Falcons managed to regain the lead briefly until Hawks player Ceejay Nofuente, with two minutes of gameplay remaining, sunk two successful free throws. Natalie Hagopian scored the final point of the game bringing the final score to 60-57 for the Hawks.
This win brings the Hawks record to 11 wins and no losses. With this loss Fanshawe sits at 8 wins and 3 losses.
The Hawks Nation player of the game was Jill Semple, a fourth year hailing from Etobicoke, ON. She played a stunning game, scoring 20 points to lead all scorers on the night. Natalie Hagopian was the only other Hawk in double figures, with 10 points.
Semple and veteran Atissa Cronk both had solid games on the boards, tying for the team lead with 8 each.

Up next for the Hawks are two away games against Cambrian College on January 23rd and 24th.

The Hawks will be on the home court again January 30th in a match against St. Clair. Tip-off is scheduled at 4pm, and will take place at the Humber Athletics Centre.
