ETOBICOKE - Humber men's volleyball (3-0, 1st West) swept Sheridan (1-1, 4th West) at its 2024 home opener, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-22). Teyven Blackmore and Michael McAlpine led the way. Blackmore had 11 kills, and McAlpine had eight of his own.

Match Recap

Humber looked to stay undefeated on Wednesday night against the rival Sheridan Bruins. Facing a team they only dropped a set to last season, Humber looked confident out of the gates. It was a fairly even start, with both teams going back and forth. The game would stay within a possession until Humber started to pull away, taking a 13-9 lead and forcing Sheridan to take their first timeout.

Humber would maintain the four-point lead throughout the game, not letting Sheridan get any closer. Thanks to Michael McAlpine's six kills, Humber would finish the set with a 25-21 win.

Back for the second set, it was another even start. Tied at four, Humber would begin to pull away.  The Hawks scored six consecutive points, doubling up on Sheridan and taking a 10-5 lead, forcing the Bruins to take an early timeout.

After the timeout, Humber kept piling on, gaining a commanding 20-13 lead before finishing the set 25-19. Nazyr Francis was the standout, collecting four kills in the win.

The third set followed the trends of the other two, but Sheridan flipped the script. It was an even start, with the score staying within two points until the Bruins started to pull away, with the game tied at 13. Sheridan scored three consecutive points, forcing Humber to take their timeout.

The timeout worked, and Humber rallied back, scoring four consecutive points to take a 17-16 lead and force Sheridan to take their timeout.

The game stayed within one until Humber began to pull away, tied at 19. The Hawks fought back and won the set 25-22.
