ETOBICOKE – No. 1 Humber men's volleyball picked up its seventh straight win to begin the season, sweeping the Cambian Golden Shield (0-8, 10th West) Saturday evening, 3-0. The Hawks won by set scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-9. 

Humber was able to show the depth of their roster during its three-set sweep, taking early control in both the first and second sets and giving head coach Wayne Wilkins a chance to get creative with his game plan. Colin Skanes and Xavier Reid held down the offensive line for the Hawks, nailing down back-to-back kills and keeping the Golden Shield out of system throughout the match. Christopher Bowen and Safon Manning dominated from the service line, going on multiple runs and earning two aces, each. The Hawks gave Cambrian little room to catch up, winning the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-13.

Second-year outside hitter Xavier Reid started the final set off on the right note for the Hawks, earning the first point with a kill. Humber made it clear that they were not slowing down as Christopher Bowen continued to run the service line with double aces. Middle Jaskarn Kalsi added on for Humber with a nine-point service run of his own, taking the Hawks to a double-digit lead. Safon Manning brought the crowd to life as the set was coming to an end, flying out of the back row with a huge kill to bring the Hawks to 19-6. Cambrian was unable to keep up to Humber's energy as Xavier Reid finalized the set with a kill followed by an ace at 25-9.

Xavier Reid earned himself Hawks Nation player of the game honours with 14 kills and an ace. Outside Safon Manning followed right behind with a total of nine kills and two aces.

Humber Highlights

• Freshman Josh Ekeanyanwu earned his spot on the stat sheet by recording his first career kill in the second set. He earned a total of five kills with a hitting percentage of .400
• Outside hitter Xavier Reid finished with a new career-high with 14 kills.
• Freshman Safon Manning finished with 11 points - a new career-high.
• The Hawks advanced to a .354 hitting average after nailing down 37 kills out of 62 attempts in the game.

What's Next?
Top-ranked Humber will play its final home game of the semester on Dec. 1 against the Boréal Viperès (1-7, 9th West). Game time is set for 3 p.m and will be streamed on the Hawks Sports Network.
