HAWKS SNARE 15TH WIN OF THE SEASON WITH SWEEP OF NIAGARA

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team have already punched their ticket to the OCAA Final Eight Championship tournament as hosts, but that has not stopped them from doing great things on the court this year, as they won their fifteenth game of the year by way of a 3-0 sweep of the Niagara Knights.

The two teams came into the match with impressive records and rankings. The visitors from Niagara carried a mark of 11-5 and a twelve ranking in the country. Humber sat just in front of the Knights with their record of 15-2 and the number four spot nationally.

When the dust settled on the 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 win for the hometown Hawks, the key seemed to be more about depth and experience, as Humber got stronger as the match rolled along. Niagara, although showing brilliance from the setting and outside hitting spots on the floor, were unable to rein in a strong and balanced Hawk attack.

There were a number of outstanding performances, but the highlight player of the night was veteran Kamyn Wilkins. He started strong and continued this fine play throughout. He led both teams with 11 kills, and controlled the tempo by way of solid defensive play and an occasional set when required.

The highlight of the night was the record breaking performance of setter Jake Gomes. With two aces in the match which gave him 47 for the year, saw him bypass a mark set Humber Hall of Famer Tim Pennefather.

The Hawks do not have much time to celebrate this win, as they travel to Hamilton to face the Mohawk Mountaineers. The first serve is set to fly at 3:00 pm.
