DEVESCERI MAKES TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO HAWKS LINE-UP WITH 16 KILLS

 Recap by Aideena Wickstrom

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Hawks extended their win streak to 7 games in a row as they dominated the Boréal Vipers in three straight sets.

The Hawks were off to an intense start as setter Jake Gomes assisted in three immediate kills. Taking all of the games momentum, Humber quickly launched themselves into a 8-1 lead. As Boréal struggled to return the ball over the net, they began to lose their power. Placing down kill after kill, the Hawks pushed the Vipers to call a time out at 20-8. Once both teams hit the court again, Humber forced down a kill, certifying that Hawks had not lost any momentum. The final score to the opening set was 25-12.

Humber was able to showcase their whole lineup in the second set, as each athlete entered the court and did their job effectively. As Boréal quickly began to lose control of their side, Humber jolted into a seven point lead. The Hawks offence continued to execute perfectly as rookie Eduardo Silva Ferreira flew out of the left side position and nailed down a kill on the opposing court. Boréal called a needed timeout at 16-9, as they began compounding errors. Coming out of the break, the Hawks continued to extend their lead. With a nine point separation between the teams, Humber began to play comfortably. After multiple unforced errors on Boréal's behalf, the game was ended at 25-18.

The final set mimicked the first two as Humber started off on the right foot. Continuing to play his whole roster, coach Wayne Wilkins was confident in his teams performance. Making multiple unforced errors, the Vipers fell further and further behind their hosts. With a serving run by Eduardo Silva Ferreira, the Hawks flew into a five point lead. Showing their determination to finish the game during this set, the Hawks demonstrated a flawless defence. The game was ended at 25-14 with a missed serve on Boréal's behalf.

The lead scorer in this match was Dylan Devecseri with 16 kills and a service ace. Dylan also received Hawk Nation Player of the Game.
