HAWKS CAN CLINCH SECOND IN WEST WITH WIN THIS WEEKEND

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team, who are within a single victory of clinching second place in the West Division and with a slight opening still available for number one, will travel to Sudbury this weekend. The Boreal Vipers will be the host on Saturday evening, followed by the Cambrian Golden Shield on Sunday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT

Humber faced a very tough Sheridan Bruins team on home court and emerged with a tough fought 3-0 (30-28, 25-19, 25-17) victory. The win completed a 2-0 week, as Humber knocked off Redeemer on Friday night. Kamyn Wilkins delivered one of his best outings of the season, amassing 20 points, based on 13 kills, 6 aces and 1 block. Dylan Devecseri was close behind, with 18 points.

LAST TIME OUT VS BOREAL

Humber had little trouble in defeating the last place and winless Vipers in three straight (25-18,25-11,25-17). All 14 Hawk players dressed played in the contest. Freshman Alex Bowden combined 6 kills, 4 service aces and one block for a game leading point total of 11.

SCOUTING BOREAL

  • The Vipers have never beaten the Hawks, with Humber holding a 16-0 mark in regular season play. In all these matches, Boreal has not scored snared a single set win
  • As their record indicates, they have struggled on the stat sheet as well, ranking at the bottom of almost every category
  • Michel Ayotte is the Vipers leading scorer, checking in with an average of 1.7 points per set. Clayton Geddes follows closely behind, at 1.5 pps.
  • Zack Ducharme is the setter of choice, and checks in with 168 of the teams 220 assist total

LAST TIME OUT VS CAMBRIAN

Humber made short work out of the visiting Golden Shield squad in December winning  in three straight non-competitive sets (25-7, 25-17, 25-14). As with Boreal the day before, all 14 Hawks made an appearance in the match. David Fountain scored 9 points (7K, 1A, 1B) to lead both teams.

SCOUTING CAMBRIAN

  • Cambrian has won just a single game out of the 24 played between the two teams in regular season meetings.
  • As with their record, the Cambrian squad ranked at the bottom of most team statistical categories, checking in at 19th or 20th along the way
  • Lucas Claveau has been a bright spot, and leads the team in scoring with a 3.3 points per set average. No other Golden Shield player has a mark above 1.4 pps
  • Cole Krassey has set in evbery match this year and leads the team with 191 assists

HAWK NOTES

  • After a 1-2 start, the Hawks have won 12 straight
  • Humber still ranks near the middle to top half of all statistical categories, topping out number four in services aces and assists per set
  • Dylan Devecseri, at 3.9 points per set, continues to lead the team in scoring. Clayton Blanchette and Kamyn Wilkins check in with identical marks of 3.3 pps
  • Although they have shared the setting duties this year, Rady Kim has seemingly taken over the reins, and leads the team with 315 helpers. He amassed 60 assists in just two games this past week.

  • Wayne Wilkins continues chase his brother Chris in all-time coaching wins numbers at Humber. He has 328 to his brothers 332 victories.
  • Clayton Blanchette is just six kills away from hitting the 600 mark for his career
