LAST TIME OUT

Humber travelled to Ancaster to play the Redeemer Royals on Friday night. Results and statistics were not available at press time.

LAST TIME OUT VS SHERIDAN

In one of their four five-set marathons this year, the Hawks battled back from two sets to one and eventually win 15-10 in the fifth set. The Bruins have always given Humber a difficult time, and this was no exception. The Sheridan set wins were relatively easy ones at 25-17 and 25-18. Freshman Dylan devecseri flexed his muscles in this one, scoring a game and season high 27 points.

SCOUTING SHERIDAN

  • The Bruins are 15-37 all-time in regular season play against the Hawks. They have similar home (8-18) and away (9-17) records against Humber
  • With the new expanded playoff system in place, Sheridan is still in a battle to advance to the crossover playoff round. A win over the Hawks could go a long way in securing that spot. A loss opens up the chance of bowing out, as only seven teams from the West will move on
  • All team wide statistics indicate a team that should boast a better record than 6-9. They are well within the top ten of every team category, and show a huge strength defensively in digs (2nd) and blocking (4th)
  • Although they have many players contributing offensively, with five players average over 2.2 points per set, they do not have a dominating force. Travis James and Andre Zopf lead the way with identical 2.6 pps marks
  • Ricky Davids has carried the setting load (330 assists), but has had Liam Butchereit support him (145 assists)

HAWK NOTES

  • With the win over Mohawk at home on Friday night, the Hawks have now won ten straight games, improving their record from a season low 1-2 to a solid mark of 11-2
  • By doing the math, Humber has secured a home playoff crossover game, which will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 pm. An opponent has yet to be determined
  • The Hawks have performed brilliantly from the service line, currently placing third in aces and aces per set. They drop to the middle of the pack in blocks andkill offence
  • The coaching staff is looking forward to the return of leading scorer Dylan Devecseri (3.7 pps), but put a star next to Clayton Blanchette and Kamyn Wilkinsnames, as they have stepped up and delivered in Devecseris absence
  • The setting continues to be shared by Rady Kim (255 assists) and Jake Gomes (141 assists). Rady has stayed on the floor often this year, as a libero, when not setting

HISTORY WATCH

  • Head coach Wayne Wilkins is not going away, as with ten straight wins, is staying close to brother Chris's all-time Hawk coaches win record with 326 victories
  • Clayton Blanchette has moved up in a number of Humber all-time records, and now sits third in kills (578), and fourth in service aces (73) and fourth in points (695). Based on his averages, he could move up the ladder in kills and total points this year
